Carbohydrates in Diet: The role of carbohydrates in the diet is very important and that is why foods containing carbohydrates are to be taken daily. The main role of carbohydrates is to give us energy for our daily work. An appropriate amount of carbohydrate intake is one of the most vital parts of a balanced diet. There are many food items that are available throughout the whole world that contain a considerable amount of carbohydrates. Among them, the mentionable ones are the staple foods like rice and bread items.

Importance of carbohydrates for the body

They are the foods that are mainly taken as staple dishes in Asian countries. There are also many fruits that are important for containing considerable amounts of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are actually the organic compounds that are important for different digestive operations in our bodies. There are lots of differences between carbohydrates and other elements important for nutrition like proteins and fats. Generally, it is seen that carbohydrates in a diet need less amount of water than what is needed in the cases of proteins and fats. Carbohydrates are immensely important for energizing our bodies. Therefore we must intake the proper amount of carbohydrates on a regular basis. The tissues and cells that are built by the help of proteins and fat have to be maintained in the perfect order and carbohydrates are immensely important for this work. All grain products are rich sources of carbohydrates and that is why grain foods are very good for health. It has been known from a survey that 65% of energy in the bodies of Americans comes from carbohydrate foods.

There are two different types of carbohydrates available in all foods and they are simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Both have different roles to play in the human body. The difference between the two types of carbohydrates is actually the difference in their chemical compositions. Simple carbohydrates have smaller chains than complex ones. There is also the conception of “good carbs” and “bad carbs”. They are important role players in low-carbohydrate foods. The deficiency of carbohydrates in the diet leads mainly to malnutrition. This malnutrition can result in dysfunctional disorders in the human body. Food and Agriculture Organization has taken many steps for the promotion of the idea of carbohydrates in the diet because everyone should be well aware of the proper amounts that are to be taken to the body on regular basis. Sugar is also a great resource of carbohydrates and that is why sweet foods always increase our energy. But it is never right to take excessive sweet foods because obesity is an inevitable result of excessive sugar input.

Carbohydrates in the diet is hence a topic that has to be cleared to all and sundry. With the increasing number of blood sugar patients throughout the world awareness about carbohydrates in the diet is the only solution to all the problems. Special care should also be taken for the children as well. The amount of carbohydrates needed by a full-grown body differs along with the body weights of different people.
